Willow City Loop, Apr 10, 2017

On the Willow City loop north of Fredericksburg there is this ranch that has boots on all the fence post. The flowers along the fence are Texas Bluebonnets but we found many more small patches of wildflowers in the area.   Img 63033 Willowcity 3

Indian Blankets on  Hwy 16, Apr 11, 2017

There were large patches of Indian Blankets (Gaillardia pulchella) along the highways north of Fredericksburg – Many more of these flowers than bluebonnets or paintbrushes. These are also called Fire Wheel.   Img 63413 Indianblanket Hwy16

Lace Cactus Bloom, Apr 12, 2017

The trails in Colorado Bend St Park had lots of Lace Cactus (Echinocereus reichenbachii) blooming. This is a small barrel cactus and the bloom shoots out the side but almost completely covers up the cactus.   Img 63498 Lacecactus

 

 

 

Gorman Falls, Apr 12, 2017

One of the main features of Colorado Bend St Park is Gorman Falls. This is a spring fed creek that casacades about 65 feet over the cliff towards the Colorado river.  Img 63586 Gormanfalls

 

 

Texas Wildflowers, Mar 22, 2017

We found this large field of yellow Butterweed (Senecio glabellus) with a small patch of the pink Showy Primrose (Oenothera speciosa) along Hwy 290 near Chappell Hill TX while looking at Texas wildflowers. Also found Clasping-Leaved Coneflowers, Indian Paint Brushes, Engelmann Daisy, Indian Blankets, Pointed Phlox, Blue Eyed Grass, Baby Blue Eyes, White Prickly Poppy, and of course, Texas Blue Bonnets.
